Root Planning and Scraping
Subgingival scaling refers to the removal of subgingival calculus and plaque attached to the surface of the root of the periodontal pocket with subgingival scaling instruments.
Root surface formation refers to the use of subgingival curettage instruments to remove the attached and embedded odontoliths, and to scrape away the lesion cementum contaminated by toxins on the root surface, so as to form a smooth, hard and clean root surface, making the root surface a biocompatible surface, which is conducive to the attachment and regeneration of periodontal tissue.
Subgingival curettage is often used in the treatment of periodontitis. It is generally combined with supragingival tooth washing. Tooth washing is mainly to remove dental stones and dental plaque on the gingiva. The combination of the two has a better effect. Subgingival curettage is often combined with gingival flap surgery. By opening the gums, doctors can curettage under direct vision, and the effect is good. Because subgingival curettage stimulates periodontal tissue greatly, it is basically operated under anesthesia, and there will be a small amount of bleeding after operation, which is a normal phenomenon.
