How is root canal therapy performed?

Process
1.Take X-ray photos to determine the structure of the affected area and the operation plan.
2. If the dental pulp is active, local anesthesia will be applied. If the dental pulp is necrotic, it may not be necessary, depending on the needs of the patient.
3. Remove the humus and expand into the pulp cavity.
4. Open the pulp cavity and take out the inflamed or necrotic pulp.
5. Use root canal file to remove the source of infection and expand the root canal for sealing.
6. Rinse the interior of root canal alternately with disinfectant (such as sodium hypochlorite or 3% hydrogen peroxide) and normal saline.
7. Fill the root canal with gum tip and try to keep the root canal sterile and closed.
8. Depending on the degree of dentin loss and tooth position, dental materials such as resin, glass ionomer and silver mercury are used to fill the cavities of teeth.
9. Since the teeth will become fragile after the pulp is removed, it is generally necessary to install artificial crowns to protect the teeth after root canal treatment and prevent rupture.
Advantage
Pathologically, pulpitis and even pulp degeneration (also known as necrosis) is a normal response of the human immune system. When teeth begin to decay, the function of the immune system begins to unfold. When the pulp is finally withdrawn from the root canal, the purpose is to produce apical inflammation to prevent bacteria or other substances from passing through the periodontal tissue into the blood vessels.
The purpose of root canal therapy is to treat and prevent root tip inflammation. If the root tip is not inflamed, it can remove pain and other symptoms caused by root tip inflammation.
Root canal therapy is also a technique for filling teeth, just like filling teeth or braces. The ultimate goal is to preserve and repair teeth.
The success rate of root canal therapy is more than 90%. Even if it fails, it is tolerable most of the time, and the apical disease will not spread because it is the normal behavior of the autoimmune system.
Shortcoming
The operation is cumbersome, and the course of treatment generally takes 2 to 4 visits to complete. Treatment takes longer. However, root canal specialists can complete this treatment at one time, and most of the time is about an hour.
The price is expensive. For example, in the United States, the operation of a tooth generally costs US $1000, which is usually charged based on the number of root canals. Molars have four root canals, so the charge is higher. In addition, the crown can reach US $2000. However, compared with the treatment derived from tooth extraction, root canal treatment is still relatively cheap, and the follow-up maintenance cost is relatively low.
